Beignet Dash at Port Orleans French Quarter
A Fun Run while on vacation? Isn’t it enough to do a lap or two around World Showcase where there are food and beverages to help push you along the way? Sure, but this really is a fun run, and you get to eat beignets afterwards – win/win!
What Is It?
The Fun Run is a 3k trail that follows the Sassagoula River from Port Orleans French Quarter, around Port Orleans Riverside, and back to the starting line. You can run, jog, or even walk the course.
Full disclosure: My husband jogged. I walked very slowly while drinking coffee. I was in conference meetings all day the day before and was out until 2am that night at our agency’s birthday party!
Walking is perfectly fine. While the runners took off, I was able to take my time around the course. Cast Members are stationed around the course to make sure you’re going the right way, and there is a “follow up” Cast Member on a bike that stays behind the slowest person to make sure no one gets left behind. Even though I was the last one to finish the 3k, there were Cast Members waiting for me at the end to cheer my finish.
What Do You Get?
A coupon for three beignets, a fun medal to wear, a button, a bottle of water, and bragging rights!
How Do You Sign Up?
We signed up the night before at the Concierge Desk of Port Orleans French Quarter. The fee was $15 fee, which goes to support the run, and covers the cost of your beignets. The process to sign up was very easy, and didn’t take more than a few minutes.
What Was The Process In The Morning?
The Beignet Dash officially begins at 8am. You’re asked to show up 30 minutes early to fill out your release forms. You’re also given your race bib and safety pins to attach it to your shirt, and then you’re off! You can run, jog, or walk the race path.
When do you get the beignets?
The coupon for your free beignets is attached to your race bib. After the run, take the coupon to Scat Cat’s Club Cafe (this is a recent change, the beignets were at Sassagoula Floatworks food court previously).
Was it worth it?
Yes, especially if you’re looking for something different to do on your vacation. However, I don’t recommend only getting 4 hours of sleep the night before!
